Phone lines in Canada are available as legacy analog lines, digital PRI lines or VoIP (Voice over IP) lines. Phone lines from Shaw are VoIP but they are provided on Shaw's private network that is engineered for Voice traffice and so they choose not to refer to them as VoIP lines. Shaw is a major provider of VoIP lines in Western Canada.

HeliaVoice and Primus and are also VoIP providers in Canada and can provide termination for IP PBXs. Much like Shaw, Heliavoice and Primus can also provide VoIP phone lines as legacy analog lines. This requires a device that converts VoIP lines into analog lines called an ATA or FXO bridge. The ATA device must be configured to work on the VoIP providers network

To find out more about VoIP trunks for business, visit the HeliaVoice website at www.HeliaVoice.ca

These value added lines provide additional features like voicemail, call forwarding and even in some cases, auto attendant and ivr. SimpleBusinessPhones.com and FairfirePhones.ca are examples of valued added VoIP providers.
